What Does the NHPS Do For You?

The NHPS advocates for your patients and their families-and for YOU.

Pediatricians from around New Hampshire serve on a host of local and state committees to promote health and health education for young people of all ages. Would you enjoy meeting regularly with colleagues from around the state who might share a specific concern? Do you wish somebody would speak up about issues in that area? That “somebody” could be you! You don’t have to have a publication to your name, just the willingness to put something of yourself into pediatric health care. Call up a committee chair and invite yourself to the next meeting. You would be welcomed warmly.  Most committees meet only a few times a year, so the commitment  is small while the rewards are great.

We advocate through the legislative process. A pediatrician’s input is enormously valuable when legislation comes up for discussion in the Legislature. Perhaps you would like to speak on an issue you really care about. Or perhaps you would would like to consider serving on one of the state committees that address issues impacting children. Your participation is welcomed because of your knowledge of child health and development which can be so helpful in addressing concerns such as suicide prevention, health care financing, or the distribution of medical care providers, to name a few. One of these opportunities could be what you have been looking for to share your expertise and have an impact on the health of children across New Hampshire. Interested? Call one of the NHPS officers.

The NHPS advocates for pediatricians, too. We need to address the real concerns of  dissatisfaction and low morale experienced by some of our colleagues who feel that they have limited or no control over their situations. Need help with managed care contracts?

Need some advice on how to promote pediatric primary care or pediatric subspecialties?

Need a “bully pulpit” at an NHPS meeting in order to ventilate and get some support?

Wish you had some support for research you’d like to do in your office? Could you use a $10,000 CATCH grant to help you get a community project that promotes children’s health up and running? We’ll show you how to tap into the resources at the national AAP office.

The NHPS provides information on child health and development to the public at large. There are many publications, tapes, videos, and other materials available though the AAP to help you provide your patients and their families with the best medical information available. We’ll help you access these resources. Or perhaps you’d like to take an active role in health education---maybe you have a flair for writing or an interest in broadcast media. Put your talents to work through the NHPS!

Under the leadership of my predecessors, Sol Rockenmacher, Sue Boulter and Wendy Gladstone, and with the contributions of many of our NHPS members,  our chapter won the AAP Best Small Chapter Award both times we were eligible the past few years. This is an unprecedented feat.

New Hampshire pediatricians can also be proud of the fact that for several years now our state has been named the number one state for children to live in...Please join NHPS in our campaign to keep the Granite State at the top of that list, while at the same time making it the best location for pediatricians as well.
